Tim Nunn (Orthopaedic Traniee)

‘As a volunteer on the 2010 trip to Mombasa, I found the experience immensely rewarding and learnt a great deal about the culture, some basic Swahili and medically how to identify patients with the greatest need that we could benefit with surgery. I also gained a host of professional skills especially in regard to experience in team-working and how to innovate and adapt to the local setting. I personally made many good friends both among the visiting team and the Kenyan nationals who worked in the hospital. Despite challenging conditions all the staff were cheerful, helpful, and grateful and always ensured we were well fed! They gave us a wonderful departing ceremony.’
